We are excited to celebrate the #PowerOfRural this #NationalRuralHealthDay on November 20! Join us in honoring #rural America’s resilience and the dedication of healthcare professionals to meet #RuralHealth needs.

Since 2011, the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) has set aside the third Thursday of November to celebrate the “Power of Rural” on National Rural Health Day (NRHD). This day is an opportunity to bring attention to and honor the incredible efforts of rural healthcare providers, communities, organizations, State Offices of Rural Health, and other stakeholders dedicated to addressing the unique healthcare needs of rural America.

What is National Rural Health Day?

National Rural Health Day (NRHD) showcases the efforts of rural healthcare providers, State Offices of Rural Health, and other rural stakeholders to address the unique healthcare challenges that rural citizens face today and into the future.

Power of Rural

Founded by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) in 2011, NRHD celebrates the “Power of Rural” every third Thursday of November. NRHD honors the dedication of rural providers, State Offices of Rural Heath, and other stakeholders who tackle the challenges faced by rural communities.

Rooted in Community

Rural America, where neighbors become family, thrives on deep connections fostered through generations. This spirit of togetherness fuels a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, where residents pursue their dreams and build businesses that serve their communities and contribute to the nation’s economic well-being.

Disparities in Rural Healthcare

Strained by limited access, provider shortages, and an aging population with complex health needs, rural healthcare systems struggle. These hospitals, often the sole providers in their communities, face financial burdens due to declining reimbursement rates and disproportionate funding levels.

About SCTRC

Since 2010, the South Central Telehealth Resource Center (SCTRC) has been providing telehealth training and technical assistance. We offer a wide variety of services and resources to help develop, maintain, and expand telehealth services. While we strive to help anyone reaching out to us for assistance, we prioritize the needs of those who work with rural and other underserved communities and populations in our region — Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The SCTRC offers in-person and virtual assistance including on-site demos at our regional telehealth training centers, and popular online resources here such as billing and reimbursement guides, beginner courses, a variety of webinars and recordings, podcasts, and more. The SCTRC team is eager to hear more about your efforts and to brainstorm how we could work together to expand telehealth adoption.

The SCTRC is staffed by telehealth professionals with backgrounds in nursing, business, education & instructional design, and mass media/communications.
