Reimbursement for telehealth/telemedicine services is key to program sustainability. Each major payer group reimburses for services differently, which can be a source of frustration, especially for those who manage the billing process.

One major payer, Medicare, covers telemedicine/telehealth services at eligible sites. To help identify eligible sites, the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Data Warehouse has developed the Medicare Telehealth Payment Eligibility Analyzer.

To use the tool, you can enter a street address, city and state OR a street address and zip code. Based on the information entered, the tool searches a database to identify the eligibility status of the location. To maintain accuracy, the database is updated once each year.

Technical support is also available. If you have questions or need clarification on geographic eligibility for Medicare telehealth payments, call the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy at 301.443.7322. If you need more detailed information on Medicare telehealth payments, contact the South Central Telehealth Resource Center at 855.664.3450.
