ARC: Broadband Bootcamp 2.0 – Broadband as an Investment

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is hosting the second round of “Broadband Bootcamp.” This virtual training series provides attendees with the foundational knowledge necessary to develop effective and sustainable broadband ecosystems in their communities. The broadband landscape in Appalachia is one that is ever evolving and remaining current on the resources, challenges, and opportunities is imperative to fostering growth, affecting positive change, and improving outcomes throughout the region.

SESSION 1 – JUNE 18, 2024
Broadband as an Investment
In this first session of ARC’s Broadband Bootcamp 2.0, Brian Vo of Connect Humanity, a non-profit organization devoted to advancing digital equity across the Region, gives us a crash-course in broadband economics by focusing on the idea of “Broadband as an Investment”.

In the second session of ARC’s Broadband Bootcamp 2.0, we are joined by Jordan Pittman and Christine Parker of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR), Nick Pappin of Washington State University (WSU), as well as by our guest moderator, Alex Kelley of the Center of Rural Innovation (CORI), to take a closer look into “Broadband Data Today”.

SESSION 3 – JUNE 25, 2024
Navigating Broadband for Communities with Differing Resources and Capacity
In session three, Jordan Pittman of the Institute of Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) and Alex Kelley of the Center of Rural Innovation (CORI) are joined by Christopher Mitchell, also of the ISLR, to discuss “Navigating Broadband for Communities with Differing Resources and Capacities”.

SESSION 4 – JUNE 27, 2024
Building Great Digital Equity Programs using the Digital Navigator Model

Session four of ARC’s Broadband Bootcamp 2.0 focuses on yet another set of key components related to broadband access and digital equity – user knowledge, skill, opportunity, and ability. Join us as Kristi Zappie-Ferradino of the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) moderates a session on how communities can build effective digital equity programs using what is referred to as the “Digital Navigator Model”.

SESSION 5 – JULY 2, 2024
Filling in the Holes after BEAD

The fifth and final session of ARC’s broadband bootcamp series will wrap up by focusing on the different funding opportunities that entities throughout Appalachia can tap into to help fill the gaps in funding their broadband programs.
