Notes from the Road – Telemedicine for Correctional Facilities – Malvern, AR

This week we had the opportunity to educate the staff at the Ouachita River Unit which is part of the Arkansas Department of Correction.  Telemedicine will be a huge resource for prison facilities – the need for costly transfers to doctors’ appointments will be decreased, flight risks will be eliminated for these visits, and chronic disease management will lessen emergent issues! It’s a true win for all involved. We have worked with other correctional facilities as well.  We’d love for you to watch this short video about the Jefferson County Jail.

Next week we will be visiting Mississippi, where we will give a live webinar at the Mississippi State University Extension Service on Telehealth 101 and visit Jackson to plan our next South Central Telehealth Forum scheduled for March 2, 2015!  Keep your eye on our website for more details!

Since 2010, the South Central Telehealth Resource Center (SCTRC) has been providing telehealth training and technical assistance. We offer a wide variety of services and resources to help develop, maintain, and expand telehealth services. While we strive to help anyone reaching out to us for assistance, we prioritize the needs of those who work with rural and other underserved communities and populations in our region — Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The SCTRC offers in-person and virtual assistance including on-site demos at our regional telehealth training centers, and popular online resources here such as billing and reimbursement guides, beginner courses, a variety of webinars and recordings, podcasts, and more.
