Stroke Survivor Saved Through Telemedicine

There are many examples that highlight the importance of telehealth, but none are quite as effective as real world examples of lives being saved through digital health. UAMS News recently covered a story of an Arkansas man who connected with the Institute for Digital Health & Innovation Stroke Program for a life-saving video consult!

“It’s amazing to know the changes, that we have this capability to interact with a neurologist in a bigger facility to get our patient to, versus what we did even 5-10 years ago,” said Tammye Hendrix, RN, EMS supervisor with Piggott Community Hospital. “Our goal is to work on whatever improvement we need to get them out the door to UAMS or another facility as quick as we can. Because we want to save the brain as much as we can.”

Since 2010, the South Central Telehealth Resource Center (SCTRC) has been providing telehealth training and technical assistance. We offer a wide variety of services and resources to help develop, maintain, and expand telehealth services. While we strive to help anyone reaching out to us for assistance, we prioritize the needs of those who work with rural and other underserved communities and populations in our region — Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
