The UAMS Arkansas Geriatric Education Collaborative (AGEC), supported by the federal Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration, is dedicated to improving the quality of care for older adults in Arkansas. By offering specialized training for health professionals, students, caregivers, and first responders, AGEC continues to support communities across the state.

Since its founding in 2015, AGEC has provided educational programs covering vital topics such as dementia diagnosis and care, chronic disease prevention, opioid use disorders, pain management, and elder abuse recognition and reporting. Through partnerships with colleges and community organizations, AGEC ensures its outreach extends to those who need it most.

In an exciting collaboration, the South Central Telehealth Resource Center (SCTRC) has partnered with the UAMS AGEC to expand educational opportunities using telehealth. This initiative will enhance access to timely resources, particularly for underserved communities in both rural and urban Arkansas.

AGEC is thrilled to collaborate with the partners at the South Central Telehealth Resource Center and UAMS Institute for Digital Health to provide wonderful, timely educational opportunities to older adults throughout Arkansas

As part of this collaboration, AGEC will host an upcoming virtual event, Understanding Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease, in December. This session will provide essential information for caregivers, healthcare providers, and anyone seeking to learn more about these conditions.

Attendees will learn about the basics of dementia and Alzheimer’s, including symptoms, progression, care strategies, and resources to support individuals and families. The event will take place via Zoom.

SCTRC looks forward to partnering with the UAMS AGEC team to provide telehealth education and training to students and older adults across Arkansas!
