In the latest Update from the Road, the SCTRC Outreach team has spent a lot of time on the road this past month traveling the region, visiting sites interested in telehealth training and providing program support. From sites in Arkansas like Helena, Newport and Hope along with the Arkansas eLink Roadshow, the LearnTelehealth outreach team covered the state.
Training in SW Arkansas
Several mental health facilities in the Southwest Arkansas region are on the verge of starting telemental health programs with nearby ERs. Our team is supporting this process and delivering training as well as resource information for agreements and sustainability.
Visit from the Chancellor
The Outreach team also participated in a media event at UAMS East in Helena (see pictures below). This visit included UAMS Chancellor Dan Rahn, local, county and state legislators, UAMS executive staff, and Arkansas e-Link personnel. Medical providers in Phillips and surrounding counties will be able to collaborate with distant medical specialists to co-manage patient care without having to refer patients to distant hospitals or clinics. This means the revenue stays in the local community. The higher education component will facilitate resource sharing, collaboration and research opportunities at two-year and four-year colleges in this area and Arkansas.
eLink Roadshow
The Outreach team presented Telehealth 101 at several Arkansas eLink events held around the state. The event, “Building the Future through Telemedicine and Higher Education” was held at local two year colleges. The events were held at Pulaski Technical College, ASU Newport, Northwest Arkansas Community College, South Arkansas Community College, U of A Community College at Hope, East Arkansas Community College, and National Park Community College. Along with college officials, all community and civic leaders were invited to attend. The goal of the event was to highlight the Arkansas eLink project and demonstrate the relationship between telemedicine and higher education.
