Introducing the 2025 Healthcare AI Bootcamp

Join us for the 2025 Healthcare AI Boot Camp, a national initiative led by a group of federally funded Telehealth Resource Centers from across the country, a Telehealth Center of Excellence along with additional regional partners.

This foundational training is designed to equip participants with a clear understanding of core AI concepts and their practical applications in healthcare, setting the stage for engagement with real-world challenges. This pivotal series brings together clinicians, operational leaders, technologists, and pioneering voices in healthcare AI to explore key concepts, develop practical skills, and align innovations with the urgent needs of our healthcare system. AI in Digital Health

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing healthcare in big ways! It helps doctors find illnesses, treat patients, and take better care of people. AI can also make hospital work easier and faster. By using smart computers, AI has the potential to help doctors make better choices, save money, and help more people get the care they need. Perfect for healthcare students and providers, this module, AI in Digital Health, explores the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digital health. It covers AI-driven innovations in healthcare, including diagnostics, personalized medicine, administrative automation, and ethical considerations.

This module is made in collaboration with the Arkansas Geriatric Education Collaborative (AGEC). The UAMS Arkansas Geriatric Education Collaborative is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program under grant #U1QHP53054.

]]> This session explains how the strategic use of digital health tools and especially autonomous AI can streamline chronic disease management and improve outcomes. We focus on diabetes management and the autonomous diabetic eye exam as real world case studies at scale. As healthcare systems face increasing pressure to expand access and reduce costs, digital modalities will no longer operate in silos but will converge into integrated care pathways. It allows frontlines of care such as primary care clinics (FQHCs) to focus on chronic disease management in its totality across all organ systems. Autonomous AI and other digital health decision support tools applied regularly to each of these patients, ensures that those, but only those, patients that stand to benefit from specialty care for a complication, will be identified, scheduled and followed through via telehealth or in-person care . Attendees will gain insight into how these tools work in tandem to transform care delivery into a continuous process and shift the model from reactive treatment to proactive prevention.

Overview: Digital apps are growing rapidly and gaining ground with FDA approval as digital therapeutics that can be prescribed to patients. But with thousands to choose from, how do we know which ones are worthwhile? And what do we know about AI’s potential to replace therapists? Presenter: ​​​​​​​Kari Stephens, PhD is Vice Chair of Research, Helen D. Cohen Endowed Professor, Director of Clinical Research Informatics and Professor in Family Medicine and Adjunct Professor in Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education at the UW School of Medicine

Biography: Dr. Kari Stephens is Vice Chair of Research, Helen D. Cohen Endowed Professor, Director of Clinical Research Informatics and Professor in Family Medicine and Adjunct Professor in Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education at the UW School of Medicine. Dr. Stephens conducts research focused on health equity, integrated behavioral health, chronic pain, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, substance use, cancer, long COVID, and informatics data sharing, particularly in primary care settings. Dr. Stephens is a practicing clinical psychologist, currently treats patients in a primary care integrated behavioral health setting and attends as a core panel member of the Psychiatric Addiction Case Conference.
