]]> In this 1-hour webinar, four telehealth experts will review recent developments in the telehealth regulatory landscape and discuss ways in which these developments are advancing or restricting telehealth innovation and implementation. The discussion will focus on developments in three specific policy domains: changes in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2025 and prior years, the recently released DEA and SAMHSA prescription drug/controlled substance policy statements, and the pandemic-related federal flexibilities that are set to expire on March 31 unless Congress takes action. We will review the status of current policy in these areas and discuss how recent and pending changes are set to impact telehealth programs across the country.

Overview: Digital apps are growing rapidly and gaining ground with FDA approval as digital therapeutics that can be prescribed to patients. But with thousands to choose from, how do we know which ones are worthwhile? And what do we know about AI’s potential to replace therapists? Biography: Dr. Kari Stephens is Vice Chair of Research, Helen D. Cohen Endowed Professor, Director of Clinical Research Informatics and Professor in Family Medicine and Adjunct Professor in Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education at the UW School of Medicine. Dr. Stephens conducts research focused on health equity, integrated behavioral health, chronic pain, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, substance use, cancer, long COVID, and informatics data sharing, particularly in primary care settings. Dr. Stephens is a practicing clinical psychologist, currently treats patients in a primary care integrated behavioral health setting and attends as a core panel member of the Psychiatric Addiction Case Conference.

]]> On Dec. 21, 2024, President Biden signed the American Relief Act, 2025 (ARA), into law, narrowly avoiding a federal government shutdown. Unlike the more comprehensive bill defeated in the House of Representatives two days earlier after President-elect Trump raised objections, the ARA is a temporary solution to keep the federal government operating through the end of March.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. ET, PYA presents a new webinar, “The American Relief Act, 2025: How We Got Here, What It Means, Where We’re Headed.” During the webinar, PYA’s Martie Ross and Kathy Reep will discuss the impact of the new law, both by what’s included and what’s not. Ross and Reep will prognosticate what will happen in the first months of the Trump administration to address critical outstanding issues such as

  • Medicare telehealth coverage
  • Medicare physician pay cut
  • Price transparency
  • Site-neutral payments
  • Medicaid DSH payments

Regan Stewart, PhD, Associate Professor, bilingual (English/Spanish) Clinical Psychologist, and Director of the Telehealth Outreach Program for Traumatic Stress in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Biography:
Regan Stewart, PhD is an Associate Professor, bilingual (English/Spanish) Clinical Psychologist, and Director of the Telehealth Outreach Program for Traumatic Stress in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. Her research focuses on addressing mental health disparities among underserved youth through innovative service delivery models, particularly telehealth. Dr. Stewart is a nationally recognized expert in telehealth delivery of trauma-focused interventions for children and adolescents. She led the development of a training curriculum for telehealth delivery of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and has trained organizations across the U.S. in this work. She and her team have authored several seminal publications about the implementation and dissemination of in-person and telehealth delivery of TF-CBT in the U.S. and Latin America. Dr. Stewart is also co-author of the first Spanish language telemental health textbook published in 2022.

Her research focuses on addressing mental health disparities among underserved populations (specifically Hispanic youth) through innovative implementation and dissemination methods, including telehealth. Dr. Orengo-Aguayo directs the Puerto Rican Center for Intervention and Training in Trauma, a SAMHSA-funded program aimed at capacity building, resource sharing, technical support, and training in evidence-based trauma focused interventions, and telehealth as a service delivery modality. Her team has published several seminal publications on the impact of disasters on youth mental health (JAMA Network Open), and the implementation and dissemination of in-person and telehealth delivery of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in Latin America and US (American Psychologist). She is a co-author in the first telehealth manual available in Spanish published in January of 2022 (Manual de Telesalud Mental).

Community access points such as libraries and schools offer a great alternative to home-based telehealth, removing those barriers. Since 2022, Christian and his team have worked on the strategy, design, and implementation of telehealth services in over 10 schools and libraries connecting them with 6 clinical providers in an innovative, provider- and technology-agnostic approach in rural North Central Washington. In this presentation focused on pragmatic guidance, Christian and Trevor will share their approach, best practices, and the key lessons learned so that you can launch your own school or library telehealth services.

Since joining Ingenium Digital Advisors in 2021, Trevor has worked alongside a unique team of consultants to accomplish all project tasks in a timely manner. He brings a new perspective to the team and will continue to develop new strategies to improve operational efficiencies. A graduate of Indiana University’s Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, Trevor holds two distinct master’s degrees in health administration and public health.
