SUMMARY:ARC Broadband Bootcamp
DESCRIPTION:Many local leaders across Appalachia have had significant broadband work added to their plates recently. If it feels like you have been asked to become a broadband expert overnight — we’re here to help. Understanding the vast array of broadband funding opportunities available\, and knowing how to navigate the partnerships and strategies required to ensure your community is served doesn’t need to be your job alone. \n\n\nThe Appalachian Regional Commission\, in partnership with the National Broadband Resource Hub\, is offering a Zoom-in broadband bootcamp of one-hour sessions over six weeks that will cover everything about broadband that local leaders need to know. Each session will also have plenty of time for people to ask questions of the broadband experts specific to their community’s unique situation. \n\n\nThe sessions will cover foundational broadband knowledge\, an overview of the typical broadband planning process\, funding and financing\, partnership structures and strategies\, broadband mapping and data\, as well as digital inclusion. \n\n\nAttendees just need to register once to attend any or all of the sessions.

SUMMARY:Webinar on understanding Medicare’s new REH designation
DESCRIPTION:States are grappling with how to maintain access to care in rural areas — including supporting rural hospitals who are facing potential closures. \nMedicare’s Rural Emergency Hospital (REH) designation\, originally established through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021\, became effective on January 1\, 2023. The new designation is intended to help rural hospitals at risk of financial failure by offering an additional monthly facility payment and requiring certain changes in service delivery\, including the elimination of inpatient care. To implement this new model\, states need to take certain steps to provide hospitals with this option. Several states have already taken action to implement the REH designation. \nJoin this webinar to hear about the requirements of the new Medicare designation from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as well as experiences in implementing the new designation in Kansas and Michigan\, with ample time for questions. \n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKianna Banks\, Technical Advisor\, CMS\nJennifer Findley\, Vice President\, Education and Special Projects\, Kansas Hospital Association\nJohn Barnas\, Executive Director\, Michigan Center for Rural Health\nMatthew Jordan\, Manager\, Non-Long-Term Care State Licensing Section\, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
