Educating Patients about Privacy and Security Risks to Protected Health Information when Using Remote Communication Technologies for Telehealth

There are multiple resources available to help providers to educate patients about privacy and security risks while using telehealth tools. As shared on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) website (updated 10/17/2023), the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) developed a compilation to help health care providers explain to patients, in plain language, the health information privacy and security risks that are present when using remote communication technologies such as video conferencing websites and applications (“apps”) for telehealth.6
