Mental Health - Child & Adolescent

Program Name: PsychTLC
Clinic/Hospital Affiliation: UAMS Psychiatry Research Institute and Arkansas Department of Human Services
Program Description: In partnership with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has an exceptional program that provides primary care physicians’ access to child and adolescent mental health expertise. The program is part of UAMS’ Psychiatric Research Institute and is known as the Psychiatric Telehealth, Liaison, and Consults (PsychTLC). The program began July 1, 2009, and operates 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.
What can the program do for sites? A child and adolescent psychiatrist is available via telephone to provide consultation to physicians such as pediatricians, family practice physicians, and general psychiatrists. There is no charge for these consults. With cases that need more personal attention, physicians may request a video consult that allows the physician and patient to discuss their case with the PsychTLC staff. If the physician does not have interactive video equipment available, arrangements can be made for the doctor and/or doctor/patient consult at one of UAMS’ eight Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) located around the state. In this instance, the PsychTLC coordinator will coordinate with one of the AHEC Centers to schedule the appointment as well as to ensure the connection is functional and ready for the consultation to take place.
